The Flooding Truth

The Flooding Truth

June 10, 2022

Temperatures are dropping, and so are the pulses of homeowners everywhere. It’s okay to stop, take a second, and breathe.

This has already been a pretty intense storm season. What we have experienced so far can be a reminder for how we need to prepare for the future.

In fact, this is the perfect opportunity to look the truth in the eye: floods have happened from Louisiana to New England, from Florida to Seattle. So let’s get out ahead of the game for the rest of the year.

Let’s try the following things to prep and be ready for anything:

  • Get the Zone — A quick online search will show you your local flood zone map and tell you how likely you are to suffer a flood.
  • Waterproof — Do a review of your basement or crawl space, roof, and walls to make sure you don’t have leaks or spaces where water can seep into your home.
  • To Go Bag — Pack an emergency bag for the worst case scenarios, with flashlights, bottled water, batteries, first aid kit and more in case something happens.

While big storms are more common than ever, the end of storm season is on the horizon. It’s a great time to think about ending 2021 prepared and confident. Review your policy and contact Hawk's Bay Insurance today to get a quote.
